Bats take flight outside the Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area near Fredericksburg, Texas. Bats are a natural symbol of Halloween because so many swarm in late October. Bats are right up there with jack-o'-lanterns as Halloween fixtures, but the flying mammals do have a legitimate excuse for turning up around Oct.
